THE 3 ½ LITRE AND 4 ¼ LITRE BENTLEYS
This site, home of the Silent Sports Car Club, celebrates those 2,422 Bentleys built by Rolls-Royce in Derby between 1933 and 1940. These Bentley chassis carried coachwork from over 40 independent coachbuilders in the UK and Europe, some of it easily among the most elegant of the period. Probably over 1,800 of these chassis remain extant, though sadly a significant number have lost their original bodies. The Silent Sports Car Club exists to inform owners and enthusiasts around the world. The Club also published “Bentley Beauty” in 2004 in a limited edition of 1,000 numbered copies. Bentley Beauty has become accepted as the foremost comprehensive analysis of the coachwork of Derby Bentleys, and is a ‘must-have’ resource for owners, restorers, intending purchasers, dealers and those with an interest in Post-Vintage coachwork.Only a very few remain for sale. See The Book page for details. A new book on themes and variations of Rolls-Royce and Bentley coachwork in the 1930s is in preparation. We hope to publish this in 2015.
